Vet-owned, vet-run

Your pet can't tell you what's wrong,
but we can.

We're a small, vet-owned practice. We do two things: same-day telehealth with licensed DVMs, and an honest online pharmacy. No clinic markups. No private-equity quotas. Just care, written down and shipped to your door.

We are vets. We watched costs climb 30% in five years, watched private equity buy the clinic next door, watched friends choose between a specialist and rent. We watched people skip the visit and the animal pay for it.

So we built the thing we wished existed: a warm, licensed, on-call vet practice with an honest pharmacy attached. Telehealth that actually answers. Refills that actually arrive. Prices we can explain to our own grandmothers.

§ 02 — What we do

Two things, done honestly.

A licensed telehealth practice and a licensed home pharmacy. That's it. No upsells, no obscure surcharges, no "membership tiers" that hide the real price.

§ 03 — The visit

From "is this normal?"to meds at the door.

  1. I

    Tell us about your animal

Two minutes. Species, age, what's going on, a photo if you'd like. We build a record that follows them for life.

  2. II

    Meet your vet

Connect with a licensed DVM by video or chat. Average wait under 12 minutes. Same vet on follow-ups whenever possible.

  3. III

    Leave with a plan

Written care plan and visit summary, sent to your local clinic. If your pet needs a new Rx, we route you to an in-person exam (yours or a partner). Refills on existing scripts ship free.

Average end-to-end — visit started to medication at door — 26 hours

§ 04 — The formulary

The shop, but make it apothecary.

Six of our most-refilled, plus a deep OTC catalog — joint chews, dental rinses, calming supplements, and our new symptom-care kits for ear, eye, and hot-spot issues. No Rx needed for OTC.

Fulfilled by Vetcove Home Pharmacy — a fully licensed, VIPPS®-accredited veterinary pharmacy. Cold-chain, child-resistant, and yours in 1–3 days. Rx items require a valid prescription from a vet who has examined your pet (a VCPR). Upload your script, have your clinic transfer it, or book an in-person exam — transfers are free.

§ 05 — Pet parents

What we hear, a lot.

Maren K.
Our 13-year-old senior dog flared at 9pm on a Sunday. Vet on video by 9:14, clear plan, and a refill on his existing prednisone script the next morning — no $400 ER trip just to be told to wait until Monday.

I run two cats and a senior pug on monthly meds. Switching saved me about $61 a month and I haven't missed a refill since.

The vet actually called me back to check on her the next day. I cried. My old clinic never did that.

Every vet on Smarty Vets is a licensed Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, credentialed in the state where you live. We verify licensure annually and publish our care team publicly.

Not on a first call. Federal law requires a Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) before a vet can prescribe — and in most states that means a hands-on physical exam first. Our telehealth visits cover triage, behavior, nutrition, second opinions, and follow-up care for established patients. If your pet needs a new Rx, we'll tell you on the call and help you book an in-person visit (with your regular clinic or one of our partners). Once a vet who has examined your pet writes a script, we can fill it.

For most things — no, and we don't try to. We're built to work alongside a local clinic: we handle telehealth advice, follow-ups, and an honest pharmacy. Surgery, dentals, imaging, emergencies, and any first-time prescription still need a clinic with hands-on access. We send a written visit summary after every appointment so your records stay in one place.

Prescriptions are dispensed by Vetcove Home Pharmacy, a licensed veterinary pharmacy with VIPPS accreditation. We fill valid scripts written by any licensed DVM who has examined your pet — upload your script, have your clinic fax it, or transfer from your current pharmacy. OTC products (joint chews, dental rinses, supplements) don't require a script.
