It doesn’t have to be chewed – you can give it to your dog like any other tablet medicine. Give your dog Trifexis with food for maximum effectiveness.\n\nOnce your dog has swallowed the tablet, Trifexis gets to work on killing fleas, preventing heartworm disease, and protecting against intestinal parasites. Follow the advice of your veterinarian for the correct dosing for your dog.\n\n**Dose According to Your Pet’s Weight**\n\nYou should administer one tablet once every month to provide year-round protection for dogs and puppies 8 weeks and older and 5 pounds or greater.\n\n**Give with Food**\n\nMake sure your dog eats along with Trifexis to ensure optimal efficacy.\n\n**Administer the Tablet**\n\nGive your dog the tablet to take orally either as a treat, or hidden in their food.\n\n**Observe Your Dog**\n\nKeep an eye on your dog for one hour after administration, and if vomiting occurs, redose.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eSafety Information\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003ePrecaution: Treatment with fewer than 3 monthly doses after the last exposure to mosquitoes may not provide complete heartworm prevention. Prior to administration of Trifexis, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection. At the discretion of the veterinarian, infected dogs should be treated with an adulticide to remove adult hearworms. Trifexis is not effective against adult D. immitis. While the number of circulating microfilariae may decrease following treatment, Trifexis is not indicated for microfilae clearance. Mild, transient hypersensitivity reactions manifested as labored respiration, vomiting, salivation, and lethargy, have been noted in some dogs treated with milbemycin oxime carrying a high number of circulating microfilariae. These reactions are presumably caused by release of protein from dead or dying microfilariae. Use with caution in breeding females. The safe use of Trifexis in breeding males has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing epilepsy. \n\nWhat side effects might occur with TRIFEXIS?\nLike all medications, sometimes side effects may occur. In some cases, dogs vomited after receiving\nTRIFEXIS. To ensure heartworm prevention, observe your dog for one hour after administration.\nIf vomiting occurs within an hour of administration, redose with another full dose. During field studies,\nno severe or prolonged vormiting occurred. Additional adverse reactions observed in the clinical\nstudies were itching, decreased activity, diarrhea, inflammation of the skin, redness of the skin,\ndecreased appetite and redness of the ear.
