Prescription Help

Selarid (selamectin)

Weight
Regular price $30.00 USD

Selarid (selamectin) is a once-monthly prescription topical parasiticide for dogs and cats — a generic equivalent of Revolution made by Norbrook Laboratories. One easy spot-on application kills adult fleas and prevents flea eggs from hatching, prevents heartworm disease, and treats and controls ear mites, with additional parasite coverage that differs by species.

Key facts

  • Active ingredient: selamectin topical solution
  • Species: dogs and cats 6 weeks of age and older
  • Dogs: kills fleas, prevents heartworm disease, treats ear mites and sarcoptic mange, and controls American dog tick infestations
  • Cats: kills fleas, prevents heartworm disease, and treats ear mites, roundworms, and hookworms
  • Available sizes: color-coded weight bands from puppies and kittens under 5 lb up to dogs 85 lb, in multi-dose packs
  • Form: once-monthly topical (spot-on) solution

How to use

Apply the entire contents of one tube to the skin at the base of your pet's neck, in front of the shoulder blades, once a month. Part the hair and apply directly to the skin in a single spot; do not massage into the coat. Use the weight band prescribed by your veterinarian and keep to a monthly schedule for continuous protection.

Safety information

For topical use only — do not give by mouth. Dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection before starting a heartworm preventive. Do not use on sick, debilitated, or underweight animals, or on puppies and kittens under 6 weeks of age. Temporary stiff or clumped hair, or a small area of hair loss at the application site, may occur. The solution is flammable until dry — keep treated pets away from open flames until the application site dries.

Frequently asked questions

Is Selarid the same as Revolution?

Yes — Selarid contains the same active ingredient, selamectin, in the same strengths, and is an FDA-approved generic equivalent, typically at a lower price.

Does Selarid require a prescription?

Yes. Selamectin is a prescription medication, so authorization from your veterinarian is required before we can dispense it.

Does Selarid kill ticks?

In dogs it controls the American dog tick, but it is not a broad tick preventive — ask your veterinarian if your pet needs wider tick coverage.

Can I bathe my pet after applying Selarid?

Yes. In dogs, bathing or shampooing 2 or more hours after application does not reduce effectiveness. Let the application site dry fully first.

How quickly does it start working on fleas?

Selamectin begins killing adult fleas after application and also prevents flea eggs from hatching, helping break the flea life cycle over the monthly dosing period.
