Grapiprant (from Galliprant) Capsule

Regular price $90.50 USD

Galliprant (grapiprant) is a newer-generation arthritis medication for dogs that works differently from traditional NSAIDs. Rather than broadly blocking the cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, Galliprant selectively blocks the EP4 prostaglandin receptor — the specific receptor responsible for the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis. This targeted mechanism is believed to spare the prostaglandins that protect the stomach lining, kidneys, and platelets, making Galliprant an attractive option for older dogs and dogs with mild kidney or GI concerns.

What Galliprant is used for

Galliprant is FDA-approved for the control of pain and inflammation associated with canine osteoarthritis. It is most commonly prescribed for dogs showing the early signs of arthritis (slow to rise, reluctance to jump, lameness after rest) and for senior dogs whose veterinarians want a daily anti-inflammatory with a more conservative side-effect profile than traditional NSAIDs. It can be used for both intermittent flare-ups and long-term daily management. Many dogs show improvement within the first week of therapy, with full benefit typically seen within 2–4 weeks.

Important considerations

Galliprant is for dogs only and is approved in dogs at least 9 months old and weighing at least 8 pounds. Common side effects include vomiting, soft stool or diarrhea, and decreased appetite — usually mild. As with all anti-inflammatory medications, do not combine Galliprant with corticosteroids (prednisone, prednisolone) or with another NSAID (carprofen, meloxicam, Onsior). A washout period is required if switching from another NSAID. Use cautiously in dogs with significant pre-existing GI, liver, or kidney disease. Periodic bloodwork is recommended for dogs on long-term therapy. Galliprant may be combined with non-NSAID adjuncts like gabapentin, amantadine, or Adequan injections under veterinary direction.
