Ronidazole is a nitroimidazole antiprotozoal medication that veterinarians commonly prescribe for cats diagnosed with Tritrichomonas foetus (often called "Trich") — a protozoal infection of the large intestine that causes chronic, foul-smelling diarrhea, loose stool, and rectal inflammation. What it is used for
Ronidazole is the treatment most widely used in feline practice for Tritrichomonas foetus, a condition diagnosed by PCR testing of fresh fecal samples. Possible side effects include lethargy, inappetence, and rare neurologic signs — contact your veterinarian immediately if any of these occur.
