Simparica Trio (sarolaner, moxidectin, and pyrantel chewable tablets) is a once-monthly prescription chew from Zoetis that protects dogs against heartworm disease, fleas, five species of ticks, roundworms, and hookworms in a single flavored tablet. It is approved for puppies and dogs 8 weeks of age and older weighing at least 2.8 lb, making it one of the most complete monthly parasite preventives available for dogs.

How to use
Give one chewable by mouth once a month, with or without food, at the strength your veterinarian prescribes for your dog's weight. Administer in a way that encourages chewing rather than swallowing whole; tablets may be broken into pieces for dogs that gulp treats. Make sure the entire dose is consumed. Store at or below 86°F (30°C).
Safety information
Dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection before starting Simparica Trio — do not use in dogs with a current heartworm infection. Sarolaner belongs to the isoxazoline class, which has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions including tremors, ataxia, and seizures, even in dogs without a prior history; use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures or neurologic disorders. The most frequently reported adverse reactions are vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, lack of appetite, and lethargy. Safe use in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. For dogs only — do not give to cats.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Simparica and Simparica Trio?
Simparica contains sarolaner only and covers fleas and ticks. Simparica Trio adds moxidectin and pyrantel, so it also prevents heartworm disease and treats roundworms and hookworms — broader protection in the same monthly chew format.
Does Simparica Trio kill ticks?
Yes. It treats and controls five tick species — lone star, Gulf Coast, American dog, black-legged (deer), and brown dog ticks — and is FDA-approved to prevent Lyme disease infections by killing black-legged ticks.
Is a prescription required for Simparica Trio?
Yes. Simparica Trio is a prescription medication, so a veterinarian must authorize it under a valid vet-client-patient relationship, and your dog needs a negative heartworm test before starting.
Is Simparica Trio safe for dogs with a history of seizures?
Use with caution. Isoxazoline-class drugs like sarolaner have been associated with tremors, ataxia, and seizures, even in dogs with no prior seizure history. Discuss your dog's neurologic history with your veterinarian before starting.
