A monthly chewable tablet that provides 3-way parasite protection against fleas, heartworm and intestinal worms.

Usage

Trifexis is a beef-flavored, chewable tablet that you can offer to your dog like a treat. It doesn’t have to be chewed – you can give it to your dog like any other tablet medicine. Give your dog Trifexis with food for maximum effectiveness. Once your dog has swallowed the tablet, Trifexis gets to work on killing fleas, preventing heartworm disease, and protecting against intestinal parasites. Follow the advice of your veterinarian for the correct dosing for your dog. **Dose According to Your Pet’s Weight** You should administer one tablet once every month to provide year-round protection for dogs and puppies 8 weeks and older and 5 pounds or greater. **Give with Food** Make sure your dog eats along with Trifexis to ensure optimal efficacy. **Administer the Tablet** Give your dog the tablet to take orally either as a treat, or hidden in their food. **Observe Your Dog** Keep an eye on your dog for one hour after administration, and if vomiting occurs, redose.

Safety Information

Precaution: Treatment with fewer than 3 monthly doses after the last exposure to mosquitoes may not provide complete heartworm prevention. Prior to administration of Trifexis, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection. At the discretion of the veterinarian, infected dogs should be treated with an adulticide to remove adult hearworms. Trifexis is not effective against adult D. immitis. While the number of circulating microfilariae may decrease following treatment, Trifexis is not indicated for microfilae clearance. Mild, transient hypersensitivity reactions manifested as labored respiration, vomiting, salivation, and lethargy, have been noted in some dogs treated with milbemycin oxime carrying a high number of circulating microfilariae. These reactions are presumably caused by release of protein from dead or dying microfilariae. Use with caution in breeding females. The safe use of Trifexis in breeding males has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing epilepsy. What side effects might occur with TRIFEXIS? Like all medications, sometimes side effects may occur. In some cases, dogs vomited after receiving TRIFEXIS. To ensure heartworm prevention, observe your dog for one hour after administration. If vomiting occurs within an hour of administration, redose with another full dose. During field studies, no severe or prolonged vormiting occurred. Additional adverse reactions observed in the clinical studies were itching, decreased activity, diarrhea, inflammation of the skin, redness of the skin, decreased appetite and redness of the ear. All reactions were regarded as mild. Since the introduction of TRIFEXIS, additional side effects reported are trembling/shaking, ataxia, seizures and hypersalivation.
